On at the moment at Market Gallery, Telling Stories is an exhibition featuring the work of David Shrigley, Frank Quitely, Gary Erskine, Jamie Grant, Sorcha Edward, Stuart Murray, Anna Tanner, Mitch Miller and many others. Runs to the 6th March.
“Scotland is world renowned for its story telling. This exhibition aims to celebrate this legacy whilst examining the relationship between illustration, film and fine art and encourage discussion about how these seemingly autonomous media share common themes and motivations.”
Throughout the show there will be a program of talks and events.

People are often asking me ‘what is zeitgeisty right now?’ And I generally respond “glitchy gif animated posters”. See:

A vote of thanks is due to Lizzie, Thomas, Dimitri and all at Lust, and Susana and Kai at Atelier Carvalho Bernau for being such welcoming and informative hosts when we descended in (possibly greater than expected) numbers last week during a field trip to the Netherlands. By friday, and back in Glasgow, thanks were also due to Momus for delivering a fantastic lecture called 27 Lies about the Mackintosh Building, a ‘delirious’ and distinctly non-pragmatic detour of the mind into many parallel worlds.
A more detailed post to follow about the Amsterdam trip.
Passing through witte de withstraat yesterday saw this exhibition, but unfortunately didn’t have time to go in. However, via retweet from v2, see that they’re putting their publication online:
Also in the ‘doing is thinking’ vein: http://www.dexigner.com/news/16225

So he’s not the Messiah?
Related documentary here (narration in Dutch but interviews in English, I hope you don’t have to do any proxy disguising to watch it…)

I’ve been trying to find out who created this Big Society graphic. Is it new, made to look old (like a battered paperback book)? Why? Is it old, the cover of a long lost tome from the 70′s or early 80′s, meant to bring gravitas to the much-mocked big society idea? Anyway, answers on a postcard.
Aside from these fairly superficial styling issues, there are possibly a few more complex uses of design going on at the heart of government. Also linked to the big society are the governments comically named ‘nudge unit‘, the Design Council and Baron Nat Wei, and this recent paper to come out of the Cabinet Office, entitled Mindspace, all about using various types of ‘design thinking‘ to influence (read ‘change’) behaviour.

Things to look at, things to read offers this compelling reflection on design education and the economy, as viewed through the prism of Lazlo Maholy Nagy resigning from the Bauhaus. Thanks to Keith Dodds for the original article and the link.
“For the Bauhaus begins now a time of stabilization conditioned by the length of its existence. As a consequence of the growing scarcity of money, it is demanded that it be productive, efficient – today more than ever…”

Following his own maxim that “every lie creates a parallel world in which it is true”, Momus (Scottish musician and author of The Book of Scotlands and The Book of Jokes) sets out to tell twenty-seven fantastic lies about things which happen, have happened or will happen in Glasgow School of Art’s most famous building. His attempted lies will sometimes falter and fail, falling back into truths, reasonable and useful suggestions, and thoughts about lying itself.
