Shock of the New-ish

New Aesthetic, New Anxieties is the outcome of a book-sprint organised by V2_ Institute for the Unstable Media. (downloadable as either pdf or e-book from that link there). It explores and expands upon the concept of the ‘New Aesthetic’, as coined by James Bridle in 2011. We’ve touched on this before, in terms of both the idea and some critical comment on it. Thanks to Michelle for the link.

D&AD Tour comes to Glasgow School of Art

D&AD are touring around the UK, bringing the best creatives, industry insight and information about the D&AD Student Awards. On Tuesday February 8th 2011, 11.00am –7.00pm they will be at Glasgow School of Art where there will be workshops and portfolio surgeries for students and they will also be talking about how to exhibit at New Blood.

It might be happening in the Mackintosh Lecture Theatre* but I can’t actually find this slightly useful piece of information. However, the timetable is as follows:

11.00am-12.30pm: D&AD Talk – Student Awards and New Blood with Franki Goodwin

12.30-1.30pm: University Network Tutors meeting and lunch

2.00-4.00pm: Industry led workshop with Navyblue

2.30pm – 4.30pm: Portfolio Surgery

5.30pm – 7.00pm: Industry Talk – Matt Jones, Creative Director at BERG

*EDIT: Looks like the BERG talk has been moved to the Deeprose Lecture Theatre at Glasgow Caledonian University. Directions and information will be supplied at GSA.

Tickets are free for network members but must be booked.

Yellow Pencil

Congratulations to Abdi Adam and Fang Zhou who won the coveted Student Yellow Pencil at the annual D&AD Student Awards in London’s Old Spitalfields Market. Abdi and Zhou won in the Animation category for their short film ‘Design Intervention’ (see below), in response to a brief set by the Design Council’s Alliance Against Crime. Their work will be published in the D&AD Student Awards Annual along with their fellow winners.
